You might think reading books on tape is a safer alternative to reading them the old-fashioned way. That depends on the book.
I was running errands the other day and, because my son wasn’t in the car at the time, I could enjoy a slightly more adult content behind the wheel.
I was listening to The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros and I got up to Chapters 21 and 22.
These were two very hot and heavy chapters. A lot of unresolved sexual tension finally was released. In the book, people! I had both hands on the wheel! Unfortunately, I also had a lead foot on the accelerator. I looked down after the climax to see that my car does indeed reach into the 90 mile an hour part of the dial. Who knew?
I’m lucky that I didn’t get pulled over. Can you imagine trying to explain to the officer what had happened?
Police: “License and registration, Ma’am.”
Me: “Uh, yeah. Sure. Here you go.”
Police: “Are you aware that you were going 95 miles an hour–in rush hour traffic!?”
Me: “Eep. Um. No, I’m sorry, Officer…but in my defense, it was a really good book!”
Read responsibly, people.
And preferably in bed where that kind of delicious smut belongs!
Bonus:
And if you thought this was a ridiculous post, here is a link I found while searching for an image to steal about an accident reported in the UK citing an Audiobook Accident via the High Point Police.
Sadly, they do not include the name of the book that caused the wreck. I could use another audiobook as I have a trip coming up this weekend.
I enjoyed your ridiculous post. I’m tired of reading and writing heavy topics. I need more lighthearted stuff in my life… although I was concerned that it was your car in the picture after your steamy prose got the better of you.

I’m glad I managed a light tone, because, obviously I would hate to cause an accident due to second hand orgasms. And, I’m glad it wasn’t my car either. For future reference, I drive a blue, Prius V. If you see one of those swerving on the highway, now you know who to avoid and why!

I have no aural learning ability so I guess the road is a little safer… 🤣

I’m not sure I learned anything either. I am still planning on reading audiobooks this way. It’s the only way I can survive taking my son on his various long-distance trips to the Dollar Tree franchises around the state. (He’s very clever to ask for stores at least 30 minutes away or more–so he gets a car ride as well as a trip to his favorite shopping place!)

Alex is very sharp. I just tune out talking which made school kind of challenging. I took a learning styles test and I had a 1 on Aural Learning Ability. I had to laugh. My mom always said, “You haven’t heard a word I said!” apparently it was true. 🤣

I typically find myself saying, “I’m sorry, what was that? I wasn’t listening.” So, I’d say ‘I hear you’ in reply but honestly, I probably won’t!

I do recall something similar happening to me. Mine wasn’t quite a 90 mph book tho’. Maybe that could be a new way to rate smut… in mph! 🙂

Perhaps using a number of rubber tires to indicate the pleasure achieved? They would represent the condoms needed, or something like that.
Let’s hope all our personal reading or other engaging activities achieve at least 65 miles per hour. At my age, I’m lucky to even be on the highway at all!

lol just started listen to Pocket FM there is quite a selection of stories on there and I downloaded it to my iPhone. I actually found myself distracted to this while driving and thought is this really the best idea? Obviously not… as I was trying to see how aware of the things around me while listening. As the driver you are not making head checks etc. I tested myself and at least I know maybe need to be listening at home. Funny how we both started listening to audio recently Kiri!

I also nearly fell asleep once because of how calming the reader was. I had to turn off that book and finish it in short drives through several weeks.

I don’t know whether to laugh or gasp! Going 95 mph is quite fast! My little Prius C doesn’t do well past 75 and would likely shake itself so badly that the CD player would start skipping!! On the other hand I will have to check to see if the library has this book!!

Laughing is totally expected. If you get the book, gasping will also be appropriate. It is a slightly slow read to start. But still, a very good book overall. Just not for highway driving at some points.
